We are pleased to announce the introduction of ViziLite Plus into our practice as an advanced oral cancer screening exam. ViziLite Plus is the only approved technology used to screen adult patients for the early detection of pre-malignant and malignant lesions. This technology has been available in medicine for over 10 years and has only recently become approved in dentistry due to its high efficacy from years of research studies and clinical trials.

Over 70% of oral cancers are diagnosed too late, with only a 50% survival rate beyond 5 years. Most cases are detected late because oral cancers begin below the surface and are undetectable to the naked eye. By the time they are visible, they are typically already in the advanced stages of progression and have a much lower chance of curability. Pre-cancerous cells, however are 100% curable. Here at our practice we have always done a visual oral cancer exam, but now with the ViziLite Plus system we are much more likely to catch potential problems in the early stages. Although this exam is optional, we do recommend it once per year for all adults over the age of 18, or for tobacco users of any age.
